Present
a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge
of the following topic:
News
editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers.
What factor do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad
news? Would it be better if more good news was reported?
Nowadays we cannot find all
kind of news easily, in general someone select information which we will
receive toward TV, newspapers and radio. In general, news tends to talk about
worst situation, either global or local news. People are used to read those information;
but it could be different, and it is possible that if we find better news, we
will feel better.
It is a strong true that
television, newspapers and radios, are companies, and as any enterprise, their
first aim is sells as much as it is possible. So, before to publish news, each
media made a marketing research, and they have proved that bad news sold more
than good news. Then it is possible that it is the mean reason of topics we can
find every day.
On the other hand, each
minute good and bad thing are happening in the world and in each single place. All
of them (both good and bad news) are important, and people need to know about
it. However, it is hard to find good news in the media; in general people know
about good thing because someone told them.
Nevertheless, it is
possible to find a balance between good and bad news, and it is possible that
if people find all kind of news in a newspaper or television channel, they
would feel that it is more reliable, and they used to buy (or watch) more this
specific newspaper (or TV channel), than other which could be sensationalist.
In conclusion, it is essential
that people can find different kinds of news in media. It is possible that an
honest newspaper or television channel will be more successful than other which
is just focus on bad news.
